This lovely waterfall dresser was purchased in Vineland at a yard sale during the Ball’s Falls Fall Festival. It was purchased from a retired police officer that is now doing some antique dealing on the side. This is why we called the waterfall dresser “Sheriff”. It’s sticker on the back reads “Marvel Furniture Company” Jamestown New York. I’m estimating this piece at being produced in the late 20’s early 30’s. I did a bit of research on the furniture company and it went out of business in the early 30’s so it was probably one of the last things they produced back then.
The waterfall dresser is a lovely 3 drawer dresser that is veneered in oak with solid wood beneath the veneer. I did a bit of veneer repair and some gluing to give it back it’s strength. I decided to give the waterfall dresser a bright new colour. I chose Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Arles a really beautiful yellow colour. Two coats of paint and quite a bit of distressing on the edges along with a clear coat of wax on the entire piece. I then applied a coat of ASCP Dark Wax to give it a more aged look. New ceramic hardware was added to finish the look. The inside of the drawers also received a coat of Emperor’s Silk with clear wax as well.
This short dresser is the perfect height for young children, a great fun piece in the front hall or even the mud room for added storage of gloves, hats and scarves. Perhaps it could be used for a TV/media cabinet to store all your electronics.
It measures: 42 1/2″W x 20″D x 27 1/2″H.
