This love walnut coffee table was picked up in Vineland a couple of falls ago at the Balls Falls Fall Festival. A lovely lady named Mora had refinished it with a much lighter stain and finish and painted it white. I felt it needed just a little bit more …… of something.
After stripping and sanding the top of the table I added a couple of coats of General Finishes Java Gel Stain on top. A good coat of ASCP soft clear wax finished the top surface. I painted the rest (over her white) with Aubusson Blue by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I then distressed it and waxed with clear wax. I felt it still lacked a bit of depth so I used a 1:1 mixture of Java Gel stain to mineral spirits and glazed it to give it that extra dimension.
The walnut coffee table measures 41 diameter x 20 H.
I’ve decided to keep this lovely for myself. I love the roundness of the piece but most of all I love the height and how it “fits” into my space so perfectly. That was a year and a half ago.
I recently found a new table for my living room, the Farmhouse Coffee Table, and am going to part ways with this pedestal walnut coffee table. I took off all the wax with a couple of coatings of mineral spirits and Scott’s shop cloth. I then did a quick coat of GF Antique Walnut Gel Stain and a final sealer coat of GF Gel Topcoat. Now it’s ready for its new home!!
