This shapely serpentine painted antique dresser with mirror was picked up on “Lynn” Court in Burlington. I won it on an online auction a couple of weeks ago. I just fell in love with the lovely shape of the whole front facade. But when I saw it in person it was the lovely tiger oak top that blew me away. It was just so beautiful.
I wasn’t one hundred percent on the colour of the piece but I definitely knew that top surface, and perhaps the front of the drawers would get a refinishing. After I cleaned it I noticed the drawers had some flaws so I ended up just refinishing the top surface and edging around it, double reverse edge I might add…. just spectacular. I chemically stripped the top, sanded it down slightly and added only one coat of my go to General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. I can’t even stand it … that top is “sick”. After it completely dried I did two coats of General Finishes Gel Topcoat.
The rest of the cabinet needed some contemplation. I really was stuck. To get inspired I like to cruise the web/Pinterest/other sites for inspiration. I was on Suzanne Bagheri’s website The Painted Drawer and came across this lovely painted desk that she did in General Finishes Lamp Black. I knew I had to do this dresser in a similar colour. I chose Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite.
I did only one coat of the paint and lightly distressed before I waxed and buffed the shapely dresser and mirror. The hardware was cleaned and rehung to reveal a beautiful brass finish. This dresser also stands on its original wooden casters and all four locks are functional and would probably work just fine with the right skeleton key.
This dresser is just so beautiful and would look lovely in just about any space. A stylish shabby chic piece for the front hall/foyer, small dining/kitchen space, media cabinet in the rec/family room.
