This refinished Jacobean buffet for “Virginia” is such a lovely combination of shabby and pure chic!! The colour that my repeat client Virginia chose for this piece was Paris Grey with a small amount of Graphite Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan. She had an inspiration piece that she sent me and we did our best to match it to that colour.
The top of the buffet was refinished with General Finishes Java Gel Stain. It was then finished with Minwax Wipe-On Polyurethane for protection and durability. The rest of this refinished Jacobean buffet was lightly distressed and waxed to perfection.
The lovely hardware or “jewelry” on this lovely piece was first soaked in a vinegar/water mixture. I find that it’s best to leave the brass hardware overnight in this vinegar solution but if you forgot to do it overnight a place the solution and hardware in an old crockpot and turn it on high for a few hours. Either way, I use an old toothbrush to scrub the years of grim out of the hardware and that beautiful brass colour comes through. Once the pieces are dry I added the gold gilding for that special touch! So pretty!!

I wanted to start off by saying you do amazing work! I love all of your pieces..wow! you can tell that you put a lot of thought and time into each piece as it shows with the end result!
I have recently started collecting antique furniture and re-finishing as well…not for resale but for myself and family. It has become addicting I must say 🙂 and I love how creative I can become when working on my pieces…I typically have been using milk paint, natural waxes and fusion mineral paints but was curious to try some of the chalk paints. Are available anywhere in the Niagara region where I do not have to worry about ordering on line?? as much as I love the milk paint -would be nice to NOT have to order when I run out! thanks in advance, cindy

Hello Cindy,
Thanks of your comment and for visiting my website!! I have sent you an email to the one you submitted here online.
I wanted to share with everyone where I purchase my chalk paint as this may be a question many of you may have. I purchase my supplies from the Painted Bench in Hamilton on Ottawa Street. Melanie Anderson the proprietor, has stocked her little store with everything you will need to get started on your project and beyond.
Good luck with your pieces Cindy!!
