Jennifer and Adam are clients in St. David’s that are moving to Niagara-On-The-Lake in a couple of weeks. They called me in to repaint this pure white classic armoire for their newborn baby boy Weston. Now, during my two and a half day visit, Weston’s big sister Emerson or “Emmy” came to see what I was doing on a regular basis. We became very good friends!!
The armoire was already painted in a cream colour and it looked as though it had been sealed with polyurethane. Now the general rule of thumb is to not use oil based polyurethane products over light colours because they do tend to yellow over time. Sealing with water based polycyclic is the alternative if your piece will be getting a lot of use.
Because this piece is mostly vertical I applied my go to completely NO VOC Annie Sloan Clear Soft Wax over the same NO VOC Pure White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The inside was painted with ASCP in Country Gray and then the same wax was used to seal the inside. As with all the pieces I complete I recommend, even though it is dry to the touch, leaving it to fully cure for 30 days is a must.
This pure white classic armoire will go into Weston’s new nursery in their new home in NOTL. Please enjoy it Jenn and Adam and say hello to my little friend Emmy!!
