My friend brought this over for me as it was sitting (no pun intended) in her mom’s garage for many years. I think it was used at their cottage or on their sailboat many years ago. She was going to throw it out but thought I might be interested in giving it a new lease on life. “Johnny” is his name.
It had been painted many times before and most likely with an oil based paint. So I gave it a good scrub down with my wonder “degunker” TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) that cleans and lifts years of “stuff” off of anything. I did very little sanding because of the oil paint on it, just taking off all the loose bit on top. But as most of you probably know my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint will cover almost anything (including oil-based paint). So I did two coats of the yellow colour called Arles, I lightly distressed to have the white come through and then seal it all in with General Finishes High-Performance Topcoat.
It could be used as a place to put your shoes on at the front door, perhaps with a cushion on it but it would certainly become a conversation piece.
