This beautiful Jacobean painted table and chairs arrived last week to be painted and refinished along with a matching buffet and hutch. My new client Deirdre received this gorgeous set from her in-laws and it was her mother-in-law that suggested having it “updated”. I just couldn’t believe how beautiful this set truly is. Just look at those legs!
Deirdre wanted a refinished darker top surface and the table base and legs to be painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and waxed with Clear Soft Wax. I slightly distressed all those lovely edges to give it a more relaxed shabby chic look. She decided not to paint the chairs but have them refreshed with a couple of coats of General Finishes Java Gel Stain.
Deidre and her husband Bob have two young very active boys and since they were using this table and chairs set every day they felt the wood finish on the chairs would be far more durable. She also chose this wonderful powder blue fabric with flow motif to recover the seats to match her decor.
The refinishing process involved chemically stripping the existing surface, sanding to achieve a uniform look and then staining with my absolutely favourite General Finishes Java Gel Stain Two coats of the stain was applied and to finish a coat of Wipe On Minwax Polyurethane.
Great look for this active young family.
