Found this cute painted secretary cabinet in the Mount Albion and Greenhill Area of East Hamilton. I used to hang out in this area as a youngster coming to visit my cousins that lived in the area. We used to hike through the Red Hill Valley when we were in grade school before the big express way came along.
A gentleman met me in the hall of his apartment building there and showed me this small painted secretary made of walnut. I fell in love right away. He said he had just had it refinished and would hate to see it painted “or anything like that”…. well my deepest apologies… but it just had to be done.
I wanted some of the wood to be seen so I left the top surface and interior of the secretary as is with a quick swipe of General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain for added depth of colour. The rest of the painted secretary received two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Ochre. It then received a distressing with 200 grit sand paper and a good coat of ASCP Clear Soft Wax for protection and a beautiful sheen.
This secretary desk measures 28”w x 18”D x 44 ½ “H. It’s the perfect size for any small nook that requires some additional storage, a place to put your laptop to pay bills, send emails etc.
