This lovely painted Jacobean buffet was completed for a young lady in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Her name was “Roseanne” and so I fittingly called this buffet by her name. She had my husband and I pick it up from her home in Niagara Falls where she explained that this was a piece that her aunt passed down to her. She was renovating and was going to house the buffet it in her dining room along with a very large hardwood table she recently purchased. I started by chemically stripping the top of the lovely walnut veneer. And as per my usual protocol, I then hand sanded the surface with medium grit sandpaper. The best part of refinishing comes next, the staining! Roseanne decided on an Antique Walnut Gel Stain by General Finishes. Two coats of the gel stain with a couple of coats of polyurethane to finish for protection and durability.
Roseanne decided on Annie Sloan Old White Premium Chalk Paint. I also slightly distressed all the edges to give it a shabby chic aged look. And the cherry on the proverbial cake is the gold gilding. I think the way Roseanne put it was that she couldn’t get enough of it and that “more was better”. So all those loverly medallions, edges and hardware all got a good coating of gilding. Perfection.!
I know this painted Jacobean buffet will see many wonderful holiday parties and gatherings with friends and family. Please enjoy it for many years to come Roseanne!
