This lovely painted French provincial bedroom set is made up of a five drawer dresser, two nightstands, and a classic French provincial headboard. They were all found at different times over the last 3-4 months. The one thing they have in common is the fact that they are all the same style of furniture. They have been made by the Malcolm Furniture company of Stratford, Ontario, one of the largest manufacturers of furniture in Ontario and probably made in and around the 1950’s or 60’s.
I chose the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Gray to paint this bedroom set. It is an all neutral colour that is super “Chic” right now. I absolutely love the curves on this set. By lightly distressing the edges gives the pieces an aged look. The pieces were then waxed and kissed with some highlights of gold gilding wax. Perfectly spectacular!!!
The tops of the tables have been stained in my favourite Java Gel Stain by General Finishes and sealed with Minwax Wipe On Polyurethane. The hardware was cleaned in a warm vinegar solution and gilded in the same gold wax as the cabinets and bed frame. Fabulous!!
The headboard can fit either a queen or double size frame and mattress 42″ H.
The night tables measure: 22″ W x 15″ D x 26″ H.
The five drawer tall dresser measures: 37 1/2″ W x 19 1/2″ D x 47 1/2″ H.

Hi
Sorry to bother you again but I have a question. Your bedroom suite the Classic, if there was a mirror to the set would you have painted it or stained it with the Java gel? I’ve decided to do my bedroom suite in the white maybe with an old ochre wash instead of the blue I had thought. But I’m thinking now what about the mirror to the set. It would be much easier to paint then to stain.
Would appreciate your expert advice.
