I so love this painted cedar chest by Lane that I found in Niagara Falls, USA. There is a great thrift store on “19th Street” that has a large warehouse in the back of the store. When I didn’t find anything interesting in the front of the store the young man said he would take us out to the warehouse to see if there was something out that perhaps we wanted.
After rummaging through some stuff I found this piece under some other items that were on top of it. I wasn’t sure if we could get it out as it was so buried beneath these other items and the walkways were so narrow. But was so impressed by this young man and how he managed to dig it out and carry this piece on his shoulder to an area of the warehouse that we could look at it.
Needless to say, we bought it and brought it home to be painted and refinished. The colour I chose for this painted cedar chest was my go to premium Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan in a colour called Versailles, a lovely creamy slightly green colour. I distressed all those beautiful edges and then waxed the whole piece with ASCP Clear Soft Wax.
The top of the cedar chest was refinished with General Finishes Java Gel Stain and sealed with Minwax Wipe-On Polyurethane.
Please send us a line to studiopaint@yahoo.com if you have any questions about this piece or any other we have completed.
