Kelly and her husband “Brent” are renovating their cottage and wanted to see this old piece updated to reflect the new decor in their cottage up north in Muskoka.
The large painted cedar blanket box has been in Brent’s family for many years. They wanted to see the top of the chest stained darker and less “red” but wanted to retain the beautiful cedar grain of the wood. I stripped, sanded and applied my favourite Java Gel Stain by General Finishes to the top. After two coats of gel stain I applied a topcoat of Artisan Enhancements NO VOC soy based topcoat. I just love the way it goes on and the finish is amazing!! The rest of the cabinet including the drawer on the bottom received two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, distressed and more of that great topcoat for protection and formidable durability.
This beautiful painted cedar blanket box will be going to the cottage in Muskoka soon. They will be using it as a coffee table. Great piece!! I hope you enjoy it Kelly and Brent, for many years to come!!
