This is a lovely painted piece of furniture that I’ve named Georgia. This cabinet certainly was “On My Mind”. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was so inspired to get it started that I thoroughly cleaned it and painted two coats of the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in about 4 hours.
I started by washing the buffet/secretary with a mild detergent and a soft microfiber cloth with warm water. I decided to paint the whole cabinet even though there were the beautiful red leather panels beneath all the years of dirt and grime.
I thought this piece looked very regal and decided on this deep blue colour by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The colour is called Aubusson Blue. I typically would mix my colours but today I simply left it alone. As usual, I applied two coats of Annie Sloan Clear Wax for added protection and durability.
The top of the secretary has been refinished. It was chemically stripped, sanded and stained with Minwax Special Walnut colour. It was protected with rub on Polyurethane by Minwax as well.
Georgia has a secret compartment/desk/storage in the large drawer on top. This cabinet would make a wonderful buffet/desk/tv entertainment unit. It certainly would make a statement in any home.
This is a fine example of painted furniture and what you can do to create your own style at home.
The unit measures 52″ W x 36″H x 18″D.
