This interesting mid century painted dining set made by the fine furniture maker Malcolm was found in “Crystal” Beach back in late November along with a buffet. I had never been to Crystal Beach before but could envision it being fantastic in the summer time.
The top of the table was stripped, lightly sanded, and a mixture of Gel Stains by General Finishes was used. I mixed 1:1 Antique Walnut Gel Stain and Java Gel Stain. I wanted the beautiful grain of the oak to come through so I didn’t want to darken it too much with the Java.
And for the apron, legs and chairs I chose Country Grey by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. After two coats I lightly sanded the edges to highlight the beautiful details of the piece. I then waxed the paint with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Clear Soft Wax for protection and durability. The chairs have been recovered with a lovely floral motif in a sturdy indoor/outdoor fabric.
The table measures: 58″L x 40″W x 30″H (no leaf included)
