I’ve had this french provincial pink vanity with mirror for awhile now, not knowing exactly what I was going to do with it. I was going to paint it white, more than once, over the 6 months it’s been sitting in my studio. I’m so glad I waited because I now can’t imagine it any other colour but this salmon/coral pink colour called Scandinavian Pink by Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I had it sitting in my “unfinished furniture” section and it caught the eye of my client Sarah. She was looking for a “girly” vanity piece for her bedroom. This certainly fit the bill.
This french provincial pink vanity was made by fine furniture maker Joseph Jacques in the Kitchener- Waterloo area sometime between 1919-1930. It’s lovely curvy legs and just the right amount of ornateness gives these pieces a great foundation for this great colour. As stated above it was painted with three coats of the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. To achieve this smooth finish I dip my brush into some water before the paint to achieve this wonderful smoothness.
After the paint dries, which usually takes about 45 minutes between coats to fully dry, I applied a good coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Clear Soft Wax with my specialty waxing brush. After the wax was applied I used silver gilding on all the raised ornate areas and on some of the edges to highlight the piece to give it that “girly” look Sarah wanted. Boy did it turn out great!!
