This French provincial coffee table has been restained with General Finishes Java Gel Stain and painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Coco. I received this piece from Dr. Brian that purchased an antique waterfall dresser from me a few months ago. He had no use for it and brought it over when he picked up the dresser. This is why I called this piece “Doc”. Thanks, Dr. Bri!!
This table is definitely a blast from the past!! If you are Canadian you will know that Eatons was a fixture in the retail department store era of its time. It has since closed (as many retailers have globally) but fortunately, pieces like this linger around and are brought back to life. Eatons high-quality furniture line was labeled under the Haddon Hall name. In doing research for this piece I came across this wonderful website with information on the History of Toronto. Check it out if you are interested. It was certainly a good read.
I finished with my go to Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in a colour called Coco. I slightly distressed it and gave it a good wax with ASCP Clear Wax. The top was not in terrible shape so I cleaned it with the recommended 1:1 ratio of denatured alcohol and water solution using a soft contoured sanding sponge. I use these ones they are my favourite! (Sanding Sponge).
General Finishes has a wonderful line of Gel Stains that is so easy to work with!! I used the Antique Walnut colour for the top. After allowing to dry between coats I used the GF Topcoat Polyurethane (oil-based) to finish and protect the surface for many years to come.
