My office project has finally hit the ground running with the first on my to do list. Over the next month, I will be sharing projects that I completed for my dreamy office space. Check in each week to see what I’m up to and the final reveal at the end of the month.
This french pinched pleat curtain construction project was first on my list. I purchased this wonderful geometric/floral white, blue and brown pattern fabric at a small mom and pop fabric shop called Peter’s Textiles on Ottawa Street in Hamilton, Ontario, the mecca of fabric retails in our southern Ontario area. I cruised the larger shops like US Fabrics, European Textile, Ottawa Textile and even Fabricland and couldn’t decide on anything until I came across this wonderful cost-effective cotton fabric/pattern.
I also purchased a few notions to complete the panels. I needed some buckram to form the pleats and some thread to compliment the fabric. I already had the curtain rods that I previously purchased from Bouclair in this great Oil Rubbed Bronze Colour. To compliment the rod I also picked up some curtain rings with clips made by Levalor.
Now I was ready to begin the construction. I don’t pull out my sewing machine that often but have used it extensively in the past. I’ve also learned to use the internet to research my projects before jumping in. I needed a quick refresher and came across this great series of videos on YouTube by The Rowley Company to do almost any sewing project you can imagine for your home. I for one will be making some Roman blinds for my kitchen window in the near future.
The first video I watched was the making of a Buckram Panel. There is a great explanation of how to figure out how much fabric you will need and how to construct the completed flat panel. Very good explanation and demonstration.
The next video helps to calculate and demonstrate the construction of the Pinched Pleat. Again very clear and concise information making it super simple to complete these panels.
After I did my final pressing of all the fabric, I hung them and decided to open the pleats at the top to make them into goblets. Just perfect!! Such a huge improvement to the dark brown panels that I previously had hanging in this room.
