I’ve been using this farmhouse coffee table as a kind of work table to paint other pieces on for the last couple of months. This is one of those pieces that just makes me chuckle. There is nothing better than finding something that is 100% free!! My husband found it in North Welland on “Karen” Crescent one evening on his way to the local liquor store. This to me was a bigger and better surprise than a mani-pedi gift certificate to the spa!!
I just love the “roundness” of this piece. Everything from the large solid mahogany top surface to the incredible apron and lower circular supports between the classic turned farmhouse legs. Just love it!!
I started by stripping and sanding the top surface. It had been “refinished” with the worst shellac job I had ever seen. So when the chemical stripper started working it looked like black sludge coming off the wood. I was so relieved to see that beautiful wood underneath. I had to get away from that typical red mahogany colour that looks so dated. I decided on my go to General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. Classic farmhouse.
After the stain dried I applied a couple of coats of General Finishes Gel Topcoat for maximum protection and durability. The rest of the table received a couple of applications of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, a light distress to highlight all those wonderful edges. The final step involved a good coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Clear Wax.
I have to stop doing this but I think I may have to keep this one?!?!
Don’t forget to pin it for later:

I wish my husband could find things like this. Tell him he did a good job being on the lookout and stopping to pick it up. I do hope you keep it Beautiful table. I’m looking for one with a pedestal bottom for my living room. I hope the Mayor can find one for the same price.
