I knew when I found this Jacobean piece it was going to be painted in red and Emperor’s Silk painted sofa table desk was born. Found on Hickory Lane in Port Colborne, it was just one piece, amongst many, that was being sold off by daughters of parents that were being moved into a higher level health care facility. They had many interesting pieces but this one was special. I just loved the shape of it, so unique and one-of-a-kind.
I first started by stripping and sanding the top. I then applied my favourite Gel Stain by General Finishes in Antique Walnut and finished with General Finishes Gel Topcoat for added protection and durability. The paint I chose was Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Emperor’s Silk Red. After a couple of coats of paint and clear wax, I used the dark wax to add patina and give it that aged look.
I also painted the back of this piece so it could easily sit behind a sofa that is a bit low.
