Yes, another chest!!! I couldn’t resist this one. I had never been to “East Welland” and apparently it is a little piece of heaven. I found this one from a woman named Lori that lived on “Lyon’s Creek Road”.
It is cedar lined and is covered with a walnut veneer. It has lovely curved edging around the cover of the unit and extremely ornate feet. The crest on the front was added on by yours truly with an applique similar to this applique. I found that was the finishing touch to the front of the chest.
Quick Tip: “apply an ornate or decorative raised applique to any piece to enhance your piece of furniture”.
The top has been refinished in a dark walnut stain by Minwax in a colour called Special Walnut. The durable to coating is Minwax Wipe On Polyurethane. The body of the rest of the box has been painted with the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in the Old White colour. It was then distressed and waxed with Annie Sloan Clear Wax for additional protection and durability.
I’m finding that these chests are being used as children’s toy boxes. This cabinet is the perfect size for any child’s room and a traditional hope chest for any young lady.
“Lyon’s Creek” measures: 40 1/2″ W x 18″ D x 21 1/2″ H.
