What a great Cedar Lane Chest!! Always a favourite of mine… I’ve never found two that are exactly the same. This one was purchased (and I’m assuming made) back in the early 70’s. Found this beauty at the bottom of the Glenridge hill in St. Catharines from a gentleman living on “University Circle”. I love the name of this street!!
I first refinished the top of the chest. Stripped, sanded and then applied my favourite General Finishes Java Gel Stain”. It turned out perfect – as usual – this gel stain is so easy to use!! After drying I added a topcoat of GF High-Performance Top Coat.
The cedar Lane Chest was then painted with two coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg Blue, given a bit of a distress and then clear waxed for durability and protection. I then applied a dark wax to give it that beautiful patina aged look.
This piece is a great size, measuring 47 ½”W x 19”D x 19 ½”H, allowing for much storage for blankets, pillows in a bedroom, kids toys in a playroom, or even in the front hall to put on your shoes and for storage of hats, scarves and mittens.
