I so love the colour red and especially this time of year before the holidays! Here are my 5 favourite red painted furniture pieces. I have to admit they are all finished with my favourite Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and then enhanced in some way with wax, glaze or complimentary refinished areas on each table/cabinet.
“Hickory” is one of my recent creations. Refinished with Antique Walnut Gel Stain by General Finishes and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Emperor’s Silk Red and Dark Waxed with Annie Sloan Soft Dark Wax.
“Jerome” was a lovely oval coffee take that I finished with the red chalk paint and refinished with the General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. The Chalk Paint was given a coat of Annie Sloan Dark Soft Wax to give it that wonderful deep patina.
“President” is one of my all-time favourites buffets. I refinished the top, drawer and a portion of the depressed area of the cabinet doors. They were chemically stripped and sanded and then I applied a couple of coats of General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. The Emperor’s Silk Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Red has been finished with AS Clear Soft Wax for additional durability and protection.
“Castor” is a set from the 80’s that was kept in really good shape. After a couple of coats of ASCP in Emperor’s Silk Red, I applied a coat of General Finishes Van Dyke Glaze. The top of the coffee table received a coat of General Finishes Java Gel Stain.
“Steven” is an antique, almost primitive cabinet that was given a second lease on life. I really can’t believe how wonderfully this piece turned out. I first chemically stripped the top of the oak cabinet, sanded it and applied Minwax Special Walnut Deep Penetrating Stain and sealed it with General Finishes High-Performance Waterbased Topcoat. The red Annie Sloan Chalk Paint was given a glaze of General Finishes VanDyke Glaze to give it that aged patina. Absolute Perfection!
